FAQs

I have a legal issue.  What should I do?

When a legal issue arises, it is important that you contact an attorney as soon as possible.  There are many deadlines that arise with legal issue that must be met to protect your rights.

How much is a legal consultation?

There is a $100 consultation fee due at the time of your appointment.  In the event you retain our firm, the consultation fee is waived or applied to your opening retainer. To schedule a consultation with Attorney Kimball,  please call (817) 755-0529, fill out the contact form, or email info@LacyKimballLaw.com.

How much will my legal issue cost?

Each legal issue is different so there is not a set fee for each issue.  Factors that affect your legal costs are time needed to prepare and communicate with the client and opposing attorneys, court hearing time, and extent of the legal issue.  Attorney rate is $300 per hour and paralegal rate is $125-$150 per hour with required retainers.  Hourly rates are based on 15 minute increments.  Lacy Kimball Law does offer some flat rate legal work for uncontested divorces and other issues.  Please contact us today for these options.

What is a retainer?

A retainer is a pre-payment of a specific amount that the attorney holds in a special trust fund account.  As the attorney earns the funds through work completed, the attorney is entitled to take the earned amount out of the trust account for payment.  If there are no trust funds remaining, all work will cease until the trust fund for your case is replenished.  At the conclusion of your case, you get back any unearned trust funds.  This ensure that the attorney gets paid for the work that is actually completed and you don't get charged for anything more than your case specifically requires.

Can I handle this issue myself?

The Texas legal system allows for people to represent themselves personally, called pro se.  However, there are many different aspects that attorneys are trained to prepare for that are important to protect your rights.  There are many different legal self-help options on the internet and in libraries, but these are not specific to your situation or you location.

How do I pay for a retainer?

There are a variety of ways to pay for the retainer fee.  Lacy Kimball Law accepts checks, cash, or credit/debit cards.  There are also services available to receive a loan to cover the retainer.  Please ask during a retainer what options would be available to you.
